Black Mountain Lodge is opening its doors this winter for the first time, offering the first true ski lodge accommodation in Sounkyo Hokkaido. The lodge is equipped with a communal kitchen, 4 comfortable japanese style rooms, 1 bathroom and is located across the street from the Kurodake ropeway.
Upstairs you’ll find a comfortable lounge area to kick back and enjoy a few après ski beverages with the mountain as your backdrop. The lounge is equipped with a TV, DVD player, beer vending machine and free wireless internet.
Our lodge manager and local ice climbing guide will fill you in on anything happening in town, arrange lift tickets at the ski hill or take you our for an unforgettable day climbing frozen waterfalls.

By Car:
From Asahikawa head north on the Hokkaido Expressway. At the Pippu junction, take the Monbetsu expressway to Kamikawa. At the Kamikawa-Sounkyo exit, get off and head east for 20 minutes on Route 39. Black Mountain Lodge is located directly across the street from the ropeway in Sounkyo town.
By Bus & Train:
All buses travel to Sounkyo from Asahikawa station via Kamikawa station and are the only method of public transport that will get you to Sounkyo. Start by catching a train to either Asahikawa or Kamikawa station from anywhere in Hokkaido (Asahikawa also has an airport and can be reached by plane). It is likely easier to find the correct bus at Kamikawa station as this is a very small station with only a few buses stopping here. Asahikawa on the other hand is a big station and may be difficult to work out where the correct bus stop is (If you do choose to catch the bus here, look for bus stop #3). Also if you miss the bus in Kamikawa it is much closer so a taxi ride to the lodge remains as a reasonable option.
